Well let's see I have had a car since I was 19, and between then and now (22 years) I have lived in Mt. Vernon for all but 6 of them (late 80s and from 96-98), so while it may not be absolutely 100% valid, I think it is telling........

Go to Fleetwood and tell me it is the worst part of Westchester. Go to the area between the Cross County Parkway and Bronxville and tell me that it looks much different from any rich suburb in Westchester.

I could find lots of parts of Mt. Vernon where I'd agree with you fully, but I could do the same for Yonkers and Peekskill to the same extent. And to a lesser extent for New Rochelle, Ossining, White Plains and nowadays even Tarrytown, Mamaroneck and Port Chester. Again, too many absolutes. My original post at least gives exact detail of where it is "bad" and probably rejects a good 2/3 of the area, that doesn't mean I need to avoid the other 1/3.

i feel less harm is given by giving him too much waring than too much confidence in its safety

Default New Rochelle, N.Y.

Does anyone know a zip code of the best part of New Rochelle to live in. Where it is quiet and plus you will be able to get on to the public transportation. At the present time I am in 10801 area and I want to move to a better location in New Rochelle.

Default Check out 10804

No question, the best zip code in New Rochelle. We looked extensively there before buying in Hartsdale.

I'm not a mod, but it would've been much better for you to make this a new thread than "bump" one that is almost a year old, especially since your info is different than the original thread.

even had my car broken into 3 times, thankfully i didn't leave any valuables in there
This is absolute nonsense. It's like saying NYC is not safe, basing your opinion on the crime rates in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

The northern parts of Mount Vernon have some of the most beautiful blocks in the county. And yes, they are safe, as is the more modest Fleetwood section.

I've had a lot of posts on this in the past. It's a little of both, depending on what part of town you are in.

Certain areas in Mount Vernon actually are that bad...Im originally from the South Bronx and have lived in the projects in Far Rockaway Queen and have never seen and experienced the stuff Ive have living in Mount Vernon. I even had friends from the Bronx who refused to come up to Mount Vernon out of fear from stories they've heard. Now this was 7 or 8 years ago,I hear Mount Vernon has gotten much worst.
