Thank you for all the responses. This has been helpful. My budget for a home is probably $1.5 to 2.0 million - depends somewhat on what my house is assessed for in Suburban Boston. Because my day starts rather early at around 6am, I am currently driving to/from the office here in Boston. I can make it into the office in around 35-40 mins but the drive home is usually slightly over an hour. Hoping to take the train into the office when we move to NYC (can't imagine driving in NYC). Because my office is located downtown I guess we will also have to consider suburban NJ, which I know would be closer vs lower Westchester.

Not sure suburban NJ will make a big difference in terms of being closer. The main factor is more that you are downtown instead of midtown. So wherever you end up on the train (Penn Station for NJ vs. Grand Central for Westchester) you have to then switch to a subway.

And many of the NJ trains actually terminate in Hoboken instead of Penn Station (Penn Station is the terminus for most Long Island Railroad trains, so it's quite a busy place!). Then from there you take the PATH subway train to Manhattan (one stop is downtown; at the former WTC site). You might want to check more about this in the NJ forum though.

Good luck!

I just moved to Bronxville. I really love this town and Larchmont. Maybe because I am European. I just saw a town house with 1.2 milion with 3 or 4 bedrooms, garage for 1 car. It's really a nice house. I like to go to open houses and admire the architecture, the details of the houses. The town house is 5 minutes from the train station. Bronxville has parking lots really close to the train station - around 5 minutes. We just called and they offered us 2 parking lots. I parking lot is $80/month. The schools are really good in Bronxville, Scarsdale, Larchmont.
