We are a British family looking to move to White Plains for 6-9 months due to work reasons. After doing much research, we've decided to rent a place instead of buying.
Since we will only be in White Plains for a few months and have two young kids to look after, we're looking for an apartment or townhouse which includes furniture and some sort of management (so I don't have to shuffle snow in the winter). The only place I've been able to find is One City Place, but its not had many good reviews.
I was wondering whether anyone knows of other serviced/managed apartments in White Plains. Surely One City Place don't have a monopoly there?!?!
I believe there are several coop/condo buildings available if you lease. You need to contact a real estate agency. My friend leased a furnished apartment on mamoreneck avenue for 6 months, I forget the name. It's was a one bedroom though. All apartment buildings will be managed as far as I know. They are usually coops and the owner has to pay a maintenance fee for the upkeep. So you will be subleasing from the owner and the maintenance fee will be accounted for in the rent.
Also, you will probably have to bite the bullet, as we say in the states, and lease for 12 months. Maybe if you lease somewhere for 6 months, the owner will let you stay for a few months extra without having to do another lease. I know that AKA in white plains (google it) has furnished apartments and I believe they can be rented weekly, but it will be a lot more expensive than leasing an apartment.
Also, I am really confused why considered buying a place for a 6-9 month assignment???
Thanks for the reply. I checked out AKA and it seems very nice. It's in the same price range as City Place but only nicer.
Well we considered buying since we thought we might be here for longer and also thought maybe now is a good time to invest in property.
