Hi. We are just starting our search and are focusing (for now) on these towns. I grew up in Ossining/Briarcliff and went to the now-defunct Chilmark pool (now part of Briarcliff rec).

My question is, what are the public pool and swim club options in these towns? I'd love to take my kids to a pool, but I don't want to own a pool (toddlers, money) and I'd rather not join a fancy-schmancy country club.... saving that money for college tuition, you know?

Thanks for any info!

Pleasantville has an awesome pool facility for residents with separate toddler wading pool, snack bar, tennis courts, playground and walking trail around the lake. There is a swim team, etc.

Bedford Village and Bedford Hills both have highly developed pool facilities in their respective town parks, both very nice.

Pound Ridge is in the "others" category, but close enough to be considered. The PR town park is the most lavish and manicured of any that I've seen - multiple pools, snack bar, tennis courts, ball field, playground etc all worthy of a private club, possibly better. In fact, it's nice enough that the cops chase off interlopers from neighboring New Canaan. The town park also connects to Scotts Corners by a path for dog walkers, cyclists and strollers (Scotts Corners bestows upon Pound Ridge residents the honor of the highest number of antique stores per capita in NY State). Finally, the PR town park hosts an annual, privately funded (!!) fireworks display that far exceeds anything the neighboring towns put on.

On top of all that, a multimillion dollar, over-the-top town rec center was approved by town vote and is now in the works. See the overview: Pound Ridge Community Center
