I'm not sure of the exact ethnic makeup of the area, but just by casual observation, there still seem to be plenty of Irish bars along McLean Avenue. Rory Dolan's is still going strong there.
The Irish band Shilelagh Law had a song called "Meet Me on McLean" on one of their albums. Granted, that came out back in 2004, but I doubt that things have changed that much since then.
Also, the 'return to Ireland' period was short lived since Ireland is chock full of Poles and the economy has tanked, so the flow is apparently reversing towards the States again.
I was at Sieberts (just north of Yonkers Raceway) to pick up some beer about a month ago and there were lots of Irish around doing the same thing I was.
Its funny I went to Rory's Friday afternoon and half the people coming in there looked like they came out of section 8 housing. The Kozy Korner restaurant across the street wasn't to bad. I just wanted to get something to eat. Even the Irish kids around the neighborhood were hanging out with kids from the ghetto.
In my opinion McLean Avenue in Yonkers has changed. It is not as Irish as it use to be. Take a look at how many Arab owned deli's are around there. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it just isn't McLean avenue anymore. I have a feeling just like the rest of Yonkers in maybe 3 or 4 years, Little Ireland will not be so Irish anymore.
Glad I live in upstate New York.
