First time homeowner, how do most people remove the snow from their driveway walkways?

I'm guessing either buy a $500+ dual stage snow thrower or pay someone to do it for you? How much does it cost to have some one do it for you?

There's no "most people" on this one. It depends on the specific circumstances, size of your driveway, how you spend your money and your energy level. Cost depends on size of driveway and how well & how often the service does it. Some services do several plowings over the course of a storm (expensive), others wait till the next day and do it once (cheap)

Anyway, other methods include using a snow shovel and doing it yourself, ordering your kids to do it and paying random guys that show up and offer to do it. Others just ignore it, especially if you have a large 4x4 with plenty of ground clearance (my preferred method).

I pay someone to plow it. He comes once, pretty soon after the snow has ceased. Costs $35 a plow. He only comes when it's 3 inches or more--less than that and I just drive over it. My driveway is not that long--maybe 150 feet (?)--and nice and flat.
