I'm not going to get into another long argument about SAT scores and what they do not tell you about schools. If you want to know about a school you need to look at state test scores, class size, student/teacher ratio, amount spent per pupil, amount spent on materials, what technology and other materials are available, range of 'special' classes, range of extracurricular programs, and--most importantly--the general philosophy and 'feel' of the school.
I would say search and narrow down your selection to a few towns that you like....then visit the school by making an appointment.... Principals are always very friendly to meeting new parents and will be happy to tell you about their school... good luck

My husband and I just moved here from Mia, Fl , and are both working in the Bronx. We are currently renting in the north New Rochelle area. However, we would like to buy. We are empty nesters who recently married and now have 6 twenty-something kids and two small dogs, so a small house with a little extra room once in a while seems like the right choice (if we can find it!) We don't have to worry about the "right schools" except as it applies to resale, and can only afford something in the mid to high 400k. But its so spread out and confusing here with the zip,the town, the village the schools, where do we start?
