That's not a bad area at all. It's on the other side of the Sprain from other parts of Elmsford, and the lots are typical narrow-deep configurations. The schools are varied in the immediate vicinity, since the district divides in the middle of Knollwood Country Club. The area you're considering is Elmsford Union Free, but neighboring areas off Payne are in the Pocantico Hills district, and then some are in Valhalla.
