We are thinking of moving to Scarsdale in the next year or so but I've heard that the traffic is terrible. I'd love to hear what others experiences have been and how bad it is. We currently live on the UES.

Do you mean the traffic in the village itself? Or to and from Scarsdale? I would hardly call the traffic in the village terrible. It is definitely busy at peak hours, but where isn't? If this is the thing that is putting you off, well, it shouldn't. Not at all.

Traffic is terrible? Compared to what? The road between Scarsdale and Ardsley can be busy at times but it's all relative and isn't remotely like anything you'd find in the city.

Who told you traffic is terrible? You might get stuck at a couple of red lights when the evening Metro-North trains arrive, or at the Five Corners (Heathcote/Weaver/Palmer), or a couple of other intersections. But I've never heard of anyone not moving to Scarsdale because of too much traffic.

There's some traffic on the Bronx River Parkway at times, and the Post Road, but other than that, I agree, there's nothing to worry about in Scarsdale, itself, especially compared to the UES. Most of the village's streets are residential, and even if you're worried about a commute, many times there are alternate routes you can take to avoid some of the bottlenecks, say on Central Avenue if you need to get to White Plains or Tarrytown.

Default Traffic

I think it really depends on how much of a hurry you may be in... I sold a home to a person who moved to Washington State and he told me a story that the difference between here and there was that no one was in a rush there....when he first moved there he was at a light that turned from red to green and because he wasnt paying any attention it turned back to red... the car behind him did not even honk...that is the way it is out there... in Scarsdale people are a little more rushed, and believe me you would have heard the horn...LOL, welcome to Scarsdale...its a great town
