We are looking at a house without a driveway, on a street where the local law limits parking to one hour. The seller says they park there without any problem (apart from getting plowed in by snow a few times a year), and they seem like very honest people.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? The location is Chappaqua. I know I can't count on anything and all that, but any sense of whether a homeowner without a driveway is likely to get a little leeway on street parking?

Thanks.

You probably won't have a problem, since many times the parking restrictions are not imposed on residents. Call the town clerk's office with the prospective address and inquire as to whether or not you need a residential permit to park in the street.

Our street has one hour parking in front of my home. There is a man that parks there a lot and walks to the train....stays all day. The police let it slide for a while, then he eventually gets a ticket. He will park around the corner for a few weeks....then come back and start all over again. I find it a bit annoying, but I figure the guy is just trying to make ends meet and needs to save some time and $$$$.
Again, I think they only ticket if it is an on-going thing and they notice it is being abused. I park my car in the street sometimes while the kids play in the garage. Many times it is there for the whole day with no problem..
