if you don't drive I wouldn't want to live in hastings. if you want to stay on the river I'd look into Tarrytown, or dobbs. I've always live more central in westchester tuckaheo, for 5 years, overall I havn't been impressed with the river towns. but that might just be me.

I would caution all thinking of moving to Hastings on Hudson, it is a great town with horrible Mayor who at present is condoning illegal hunting. He has had an agenda to kill deer and is now counting on illegal hunters to lower deer numbers. He is by far the worst Mayor the town has ever had. It is the only negative I can offer about the town. Hopefully he will not be reelected.

Small world....I grew up in Hastings, went to high school there and currently live in Dobbs ferry 1 town over. You are not going to find many 2 family homes with a backyard in Hastings. 99% of the houses are single family. There are apartment complexes, im not sure of the name but ones address is 555/565 Broadway Hastings on Hudson NY 10706. There is a new one ( 3 or 4 years old) that was built on Warburton Ave. Do a craigslist search or look up the Realtors in Hastings, i think there are 2. Good Luck!

Riverdale as compared to Hastings has #1 train at Van Cortlandt Station or Marble Hill or 238th Street and express busses all over in addition to Metro North. Riverdale also has rail link (free transportation to metro north) from certain locations. Hastings has only metro north but may have Bee line service from some areas. Metro north however is better from hastings because trains run more frequently from Hastings station than from any one Riverdale station. Metro north from Riverdale might stop at Marble Hill, Spuyten Duyvil or Riverdale. Have to look at schedule carefully. Not all trains stop at all stops. Marble Hill close to 1 train (about 2 blocks away).

Hastings is a small town. Riverdale is still part of NYC. I have lived in both. I liked Riverdale but prefer Hastings. I have children and Hastings really nice for kids (even high school age ones). Many people move from Riverdale to Hastings for schools and neighborhood/suburban environment.
