It's DONE, FINISHED, COMPLETED!!!! Woo hoo!!! All four lanes are open ALL THE WAY! (Can you tell I'm excited???)
That said . . . there have been 3 accidents on the highway in the last three weeks, 1 on the new section, 2 up near the salt depot at the top.
The accident on the 4 lane was tragic. On Dec. 6th In snowy conditions an SUV spun out and hit an RV pretty much head on. One 19 month old child was killed, a 4 year old child seriously injured and the mother critically injured.
I have heard through the "grapevine" that the mother was hopelessly paralyzed and could not breathe on her own. I cannot confirm this, but I believe she has died. The driver of the SUV was not seriously injured nor was the driver of the RV.
Second accident I saw, and was an SUV upside down and one over the edge. There was no news coverage that I could find on that one.
The third one happened later that same night near the same spot (the salt depot) up on the two lane at the top.
SLOW DOWN. You are NOT invincible. That highway is unforgiving of the slightest mistake. It is posted 55 but a few of those curves allow NO room for error. Stay in the right hand lane unless passing.
Use your lights in daytime fog and rain and slow down in wet conditions.
The NCHP has FOUR troopers on that highway at all times. If you speed, north or south, they WILL nail you!
I am on that highway 6 days a week, twice a day, between Boone and Blowing Rock, if I see a careless or reckless motorist I WILL call it in. (*47 to the NCHP)
We don't want any more lives lost on this highway. The baby makes 3 and that's unacceptable. If the mom died, that's 4.
If you're traveling this Christmas, please use common sense, slow down, live and please let
me live! My son needs me.
