.....my parents moved me to Mars Hill (about 20 miles west of Asheville)...OMG. I hated living there and couldn't wait to get away. If you go 10 to 20 miles in any direction of Asheville you are in a scene that looks like the movie "Deliverance"...A must see film if you want to go to western NC.

According to IMDB, s small part of it was filmed in North Carolina.
Although I think SC1 is being terribly cynical and not totally accurate, where Deliverance was filmed isn't completely relevant to the comment. Deliverance-type settings can be found in parts of NC as well as rural/remote areas of lots of states, and not just in the south.
So true........listen to the song Claude Dallas by Ian Tyson based on a true story. I would put in link but don't know how that works. It is on U Tube I think.
mlhm5,
What can you tell me about Manzanita? Ross Chapin has a new Pocket Neighborhood there.
It is a lovely small beach town with just a main street that goes to the beach. It looks like OD in the late 1950's early 1960's. Very wide long beach, fires on the beach at night, horses during the day. Never crowded. This picture was taken in July. See how many people are on the beach. It is the west coast so the daytime temps in the Summer can be cool.

That may have been the part at the end where the family had sort of a boarding house and took in the two men and got them back to health etc. I believe that was near Sylva.

Cannon Beach is a few miles away. It has many shops and shopping. Remember the coast of Oregon is mostly a vacation area. Portland is 1.5 hours away. I love it there and would have no problem living there except my family has moved back to the East Coast, so I am stuck here.
Must remember the difference laid back and boring is a million dollars.
