I currently live in Central Kentucky. For the last couple of years I have been considering a move to Western North Carolina. I have enjoyed visiting Asheville for years and I am planning to relocate there in the next several months.
I would like to ask anyone who is familiar with the area: I am looking for a neighborhood on the outskirts of Asheville or in a closely neighboring town and for a dwelling I can rent or lease. I am solidly middle class (make about 35,000 a year) and interested in a safe area which is semi-rural. I need at least 2-3 acres (I raise two very athletic dogs). I am, for the most part, a telecommuter, so I should come to town already employed.
Is there such a place? I traveled through the Asheville area over Labor Day weekend and wasn't lucky enough to stumble on the kind of area I have described.

Looking forward to your responses!

Truly, your best bet is to find a good local realtor to help you find what is available in your price range.
You'll be looking at properties under $100,000, which can be harder to find in Asheville, so you need all the advantages a realtor can provide.
Talk to our regular poster here, QuilterChick And best of luck!
The closer you are to Asheville, the harder it will be to find something affordable. I don't know much about the rental market right now, but one area you might look into is around Riceville (near Warren Wilson college). It's about 15-20 minutes east of downtown, and seems to have large lots (and lovely views!). Rural, but still has neighborhoods. I'm sure there are other areas like it to the north of town as well.
Check out Weaverville NC. really nice attractive small town close to Asheville. Lots of nice people and a walkable main street with library, bakery, wine shop, nearby grocery and drug stores. Hope you find a good spot to live in WNC.
you could probably find a rural rental towards weaverville or madison or haywood county but its more than a few minutes from town......If you dont mind a trailer you will have no problem........Post a wanted ad for housing on CL....Ive done it before with lots of response.
