I've stayed in boone and banner elk in december a few times. I really enjoyed the feel of the towns and the weather was great (Im from miami, fl.). does anyone know anything about piney creek? Is it very far or too long of a drive to boone or sugar mountain or grandfather? Also is this considered high country and what does the weather look like during mid december and can I expect snow?

Sorry to bombard you with questions but I have googled for a few hours and have found nothing usefull.

Thanks.

If it's the Piney Creek I'm thinking of, it over an hour NNE of Boone in northwestern Alleghany County.

NC's High Country - Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, and Wilkes counties.

This should give you a rough idea of the climate in the Piney Creek area.

Piney Creek is a very small town, see below:
Land area: 28.3 sq. mi.
Water area: 0.3 sq. mi.
Population: 807 (all rural)
mm34b is right about its location.
The 2 nearest towns are West Jefferson, 15 miles to the SW (Estimated population in July 2005: 1,082) and Sparta, about same distance to the SSE (Estimated population in July 2005: 1,797). It takes a while to get anywhere because of the curves on the roads, so even going to the Wal-Mart in WJ takes almost 1/2 hour.
Being from Miami, FL you may know about American Prime, a Hispanic company with the slogan "Esta tierra es mia" (This land is mine). They had concentrated on developments on the West Coast of Florida (Naples, Fort Myers, etc) but have now discovered Central Fla and, yes, Piney Creek. They are developing what they called the "Coral Gables of NC" a gated community with Club House containing a heated pool, etc. There are other "less fancy" developments all around that area.
