Hi all,

I live in Charlotte and want to take the kids up to the mountains this coming weekend to go sleigh riding, tubing etc. They are 4 & 7 so a little young to try skiing. We moved here from Florida so they have never seen snow before and are very excited about the idea! I hope theres lots of snow when we get there!

Can anyone suggest a great place for kids snow activities and perhaps a hotel? I would prefer a more traditional hotel (Marriot, Double tree, etc) to a cabin or ski resort type of thing.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I don't know the answer to your question but I'm sure someone here will.

I just wanted to respond and say that 4 and 7 are great ages to begin learning to ski. When kids are young they don't weigh alot (so they don't bruise when they fall), are flexible (tend to bend rather than break), low to the ground (not far to fall), don't mind falling in the snow (in fact would probably roll around in it if they weren't skiing), and generally learn very quickly (they are naturally curious and fearless).

I've seen lots of young kids that are just having a ball skiing. Just a thought..... Anyway, hope someone can help you with your original question. Good luck!

Since you're in Charlotte, I would think the closest place for you to enjoy winter activities such as sleighing, snowboarding, skiing, etc. would be the High Country (Banner Elk, Boone, Blowing Rock). There are 4 ski resorts there (Appalachian, Beech, Sugar, Hawksnest) where you can probably find something close to what you're looking for. Here's a link to a website that has a lot of information Winter Times Online. Hope this helps!

I agree with Researching - 4 and 7 are great ages for ski lessons - plus while they are in lessons it gives the parents some time to themselves check out High Country web cams to see how the conditions are. Have fun!

Uhhhhhhhhh.... anywhere there's snow (sorry, couldn't resist!) Appalachian Ski Trail used to have alot of kid activities - my son worked there while at App - and is not too big. Family operation.

Hawksnest has the biggest tubing area in the High Country.
