Exactly. Asheville is 2000 ft -ish elevation. You need to get up to around 3000 ft to get some relief. Think Waynesville, Blowing Rock, Boone, Banner Elk, Beech Mountain.

Of course Asheville is better than Florida but it still gets hot and humid.

I was in Brevard and it was steamy. But still, as always, beautiful.

A 2nd report in, from our Folly on the Ridge, at just under 5,000 ft elevation:
our outside thermo, in deep shade facing north, hit 79.8 degs F yesterday, briefly.

We have never seen it more than 79 degs,(in the shade), in our almost 14 yrs here. Could have been the hot air rising effect, though it was slightly less humid doing stuff out in the 'yard'.

The gnats are in full tilt boogie attack and munch mode now, as they were sparse in May when we went weeks with little rain. Speaking of rain, it was rainy for the first half of June up here, but we really need some soakers in our area now.

Sunday looks to be outfreakinstanding, so come on out to the Western NC Regs & Faves meet up!
GL, mD

Yup, heat wave is over! It's 75 today with showers in Franklin. Last night I did not need a/c to sleep, although it was very hot & sunny during the day. By midnight, the temperature was a cool 58.

Enjoy the party, everyone! Wish I could join you. Maybe next time.

go to Wunderground (search for Asheville) and scroll to the bottom - multiple amateur weather stations - the lowest temp I could find (in the Asheville area) was 54 degrees on Wildcat Cliffs/Town Mountain - the current temp on Mt Mitchell is 43

wow, that's impressive for early summer - questions:

1. what is your precise elevation (I think you mentioned sometime ago it was 4,900 feet?)

2. do you have a weather station connected to one of the online services (Wunderground, WeatherBug, etc)? if so, please give us a link

3. what is the coolest reading you've recorded in July/August?
