Obviously, adjust fan speed to comfort level...

In our Mtn home, the main room fan is a bit high, so I stand on upper balcony and use a long stick to flip the switch.

I have been telling my builder over and over that my fan is too high. He won't provide a longer drop pole. I did some research and for a 13 1/2' ceiling, I need about a 4' drop pole. Mine is 2'. And the blades are in the wrong direction. That is why it's so hot out here.

It should turn counter clockwise in the summer. Ceiling Fan Direction in the Summer and Winter
There's a switch on the side of the fan that needs to be moved to the other direction. Probably can't reach the switch. If you have a fan with a remote that changes the direction, you will see a symbol on the remote. There aren't many ceiling fans made to have the direction changed by remote control, but Kitchler is the one I have. Here's some examples. http://www.delmarfans.com/kichler-ce...-from-control/

OD sounds like your builder put in a close to the ceiling fan made for lower height ceilings not one 13 1/2 feet, his error and he should correct for you. Probably got it cheap! Wonder if you can buy a longer rod and have someone change it out if he won't.Good luck.

They keep telling me the height is correct. Tomorrow I am sending him the link that shows him the ceiling height and length of drop pole. This issue is in writing on my final walk through paperwork. I won't let him get away with this too short drop pole.
He bought it through Fergeson Lighting in Asheville.

Donna, I moved here from west central Illinois in the spring of 2013 and this is the first time that I've had to use my ceiling fan in my bedroom. I am at 2800" This is also the first time I've run the AC longer than an hour or two. I am hoping these hot humid temps go away too as this is not the norm! At least the nights cool off; in Illinois it could be 75 degrees early morning, but here it has never been over 70 (yet) and evening temps drop here too.

This is unusually warm for this time of year. But seasonal variations do occur.
