This coming weekend Portland, OR is expected to have temps over 90 for longer than the next 10 days, with the highest 101. If anyone wants summer in the East not over 85, then you have to move up the mountain, but then contend with colder winters and potential icy travel down to what you need. Ultimately, it is a compromise based on what characteristics are primary to the individual, that could include some summer days over 85. This too shall pass.
+1...all about elevation, or being close to ocean water in the north east/west corners of the US, eg Seattle/Maine areas.
But it is warm and humid even 'up here' today:
79 in the shade, (with 74% RH), which ties the highest temp we have ever seen here at ~5,000 ft on Eagles Nest Mtn in the 14 yrs we have lived here.
Our 3 zone A/C is cranked, which is unusual.
organic_donna: If one digs into nearly any weather history locale in the US, there will be remarkable record high and record low temps. And for many locations, those record highs/lows and even 'average' temps are notching upward in 'Summer', and more chaotic/extreme all year around.
It's 'Summer', all across the NA continent...

The electrician came over today. He said he would change my drop pole to 4' as long as I accept the fan wobble it will cause. He said other people didn't like it because the chains would clank on the fan light and make noise. If I don't like it, I would have to pay to get it switched back. I think I should have him switch to the 4' drop pole. My ceiling height is 13 1/2 tall.

Tell him if he installs it correctly, it won't wobble!! We're in a rental with a 15'(?) cathedral ceiling and a fan on a 4' drop - there's no wobble at all.

I agree, but I doubt that will go over very well with my electrician.
I just did some research on what causes fan wobble. If the fan wobbles, it is not the down rod that is causing the problem. I am going to get the 48" down rod. I wish I didn't have to fight for everything.

Well you can cool off on Sunday with a nice kayak paddle around the lake. See you Sunday at 'the beer factory' (that's what M/David calls it) There are some large gold seals at the hostess desk to use as a name tag if you forget one. I don't like the "Hello, My Name Is ...." tags, so I got some pretty seals to use as name tags. 18K gold, of course ... we are worth it ! See you then.

I've had fan lights in all my houses and my understanding is the fan has to be properly "balanced" to prevent the wobble. They should know what that means.

It's amazing that they build all of these houses and don't know what causes a fan to wobble.
