My wife and I hope to be unemployed (retired) within the next year or so. We are currently in the pet care business in the Atlanta metro, and have many dogs of our own, through several rescue efforts we are involved in. Loving the mountains the way we do, we are searching for what we hope will be a place we can remain in. One of the, if not the most important question, though, is there a good vet in the Blowing Rock area, and is there an emergency vet not too far away, perhaps in Boone, for after-hours emergencies?

I am not aware of any vet practices in Blowing Rock. There are excellent vets in Boone including an after-hours emergency cliinic. It's quicker to drive to Boone from B.Rock than most places in metro Atlanta.

Dr Howard Johnson - Animal Hospital of Boone - 828.264.7113
Appalachian-New River Vet
Dr. Susan Mast is a mobile vet who is highly regarded.

Then you do know about Atlanta traffic! It's horrible, as is everything here. I was born here and very ready to head to the hills. My wife and I are incredibly Southern, so we should fit in quite well.

Thanks for the info!

I live near Banner Elk in Avery County. There are two wonderful vets in our area as well, but no need to drive any further when you've got closer-by choices in Boone.

It's good to hear we don't have to live near a large city for good, competent pet care. Banner Elk is another area I am researching. We work with greyhound rescue, and we are up to our ears in New Guinea singing dog conservation, so a good vet is - to us - as essential as good human healthcare.

Thanks!

Dr. Lang - Linville Animal Hospital - located in shopping center in front of Lowe's Foods at Tynecastle, very near Banner Elk (and about 1.5 miles from my house)

Dr. Jewel - Avery Animal Hospital, Newland - my vet
