How have you managed throughout the days of deluges??

My vegetable garden is beaten up from hard rains....the ground is so saturated.

Have a cinnamon fern I just bought, put it temporarily in a pot with no drainage holes....OH, it was full of water today, had to drain the entire lg pot. Hope I got to it in time....don't want fern death by drowning.

My yard needs mowing....like yesterday. At least all the mountain greenery will be lush and no drought now, surely.

I'll be ok with pm thunderstorms if the all-day-rain would just end

We've had terrible flooding and run-off in Watauga and Avery counties. I drive Shull's Mill Road to and from work most days. Yesterday, they blocked a portion of Shull's Mill Rd at Hound Ears golf course due to high water. Today, lots of mud and debris all along Shull's Mill. Mudslide on Hwy 105 near Foscoe closed 105 yesterday for a while.

There were quite a few temporary road closures yesterday in all the usual low places around Boone. Boone Mall parking lot was covered in mud this morning... seemed like more than usual.

I know that intersection of Shull's Mill and Hound Ears...it's very low with the river right there...

On good days, roadpony, you have a lovely drive to work on Shull's Mill.

Oh I feel your pain! We had 3 huge truckloads of dirt delivered but need to clear out grass/clover before spreading and grading. We now have 3 huge mud piles but they're on level ground at least so not moving and will eventually dry out.

I'm spending time going through gardening books trying to make a landscape plan for this house we built. Tried 2 local outfits and got no where. Don't want a suburban garden thankyouverymuch and would love to find someone who designs outside the box.

gbh I had not heard about that death - how horribly sad.

Did you look for a landscape architect??

If you mean you met with "landscapers" most of the time they don't have training in design.

Ask around...the Linville area I imagine has landscape architects or Blowing Rock. At least you could get a reference from properties that have landscapes you admire...they like to use as many native plants as possible, usually.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried one landscape designer who couldn't be bothered to propose more than his basic cookie cutter plan and one general landscaper who supposedly does have a design background but he flaked out on me. Said he'd submit a plan, I called 2 weeks after he said he'd have it to me and he said he emailed it to the wrong address and would resend. Crickets. I'm in Hendersonville on acreage, a wild meadow setting and need someone creative to help me create what I'm envisioning. I'm not a novice but my experience is with plants for suburban Chicago. Honestly I haven't seen a garden here that I could use as inspiration, which doesn't mean they aren't here, just that are probably hidden from view or off my radar. Found several fabulous books at the library and bought a couple more so I'm zeroing in on specific native plants, trees, ornamental grasses and perennials and ways I want to use them. I have one more reference to call, someone in Tryon who does design and also grows.

We've had inches and inches of rain, but we are at the top, so no flooding concerns thankfully. It's actually pouring right now.

Our only (minor) complaint is that we have to mow every 4-5 day. We have lot of dogs, so built in fertilizer. Our lawn is the best in the neighborhood! LOL

The forecast shows a much lower rain chance in the next week. Though I can handle the rain we've had much better than the horribly cold and snowy winter (I have lived in NC almost all my life and have been through 35+ winters, this one just hit me hard). I'll take the warm, rainy weather any day!

Our garden is a mess too. It's washed out. We planted seeds as well as plants. Who knows where the seeds will end up? The onions are exposed. What a mess this year.
