Saw on the news about Spartanburg Regional Hospital asking for masks and more, so I checked Pardee in Hendersonville because of the recent assisted living outbreak...and sure enough:
"...If you or your company have a supply of masks, hand sanitizer, or other essential medical supplies please donate them to help protect healthcare workers and patients.
Pardee UNC Health Care will accept any of the following items: Most Urgent Needs
N95 masks
Surgical masks
Surgical mask with shield
Nasal swabs for medical use
Other Needs
Disinfectant
Eye protection, including safety goggles/glasses
Face shield
Gloves, disposable
Gowns, disposable
Hand sanitizer, greater than 60% alcohol
Hand soap
Shoe covers, disposable
Handmade masks..."
I can't sew because I wind up bleeding all over things, but I'm going to be running over with some hand sanitizer, gloves and bars of soap that I have. I also have coming some supplies I was going to make face shields out of, but not sure when that will arrive.
I deliberately didn't mention the name of the hospital, because I hope others will post their local hospital needs here. So, please google your local hospital...try the name with the word "masks" and it may take you right to a page showing their needs...post it here so others can get supplies they might have to them. I'm simply too new to the area to know the names of all the hospitals in the area.
The drop-off address is: : 561 Fleming St, Hendersonville, NC 28739
But you actually turn into Park Hill Court, and it's the first building on the right. 9-5, M-F in their lobby, on the table. They have a form to fill out for auditing purposes, but you can call with your address and what you dropped off if you don't want to touch the ONE pen. (yeesh) Or the paper. The lobby door was left open when I was there, so no need to touch that either. And I was the only person there, save for one worker standing outside, who I assumed was there to organize people if too many showed up at once.
My guess is that they're not out of PPE stuff yet, but I think the idea is to NOT run out.
Ask before you make. Are they really going to use your knit mask? Or are they just looking for boxes of premanufactured surgical masks bought at Home Depot?
As a RN myself, I would not take them the bar soap unless it is the teeny motel sized bars. They are a breeding ground for everything and a homeless shelter probably could put them to better use. I haven't seen nor used bar soap at a hospital since the 1970s when the put them in the generic 'admission kits'.
Yeah. I called about the soap before I went...they didn't want it. I tried to call shelter to donate it them, but there was no answer.
