Not sure how this will play out but it will certainly be interesting. Asheville is meeting to defund its police force by $770,000 while the State is threatening to defund Asheville if it does so.

Meanwhile, Mountain Xpress reports that Asheville has now hit near rock bottom with violent / overall crime and ranks 16 out of 17 large cities in North Carolina - and wants LESS of a police presence now? Guess AVL’s looking to win the race and become the bottom feeder of the list.

Probably a good opportunity now for more Miami developers to swoop in and capitalize on their retirees by building more pretentious gated subdivisions and golf course communities with 24 hour security. I’m sure AVL / BC will have a kickback waiting for them to do so.

Article’s barely out and you can already hear the trees falling. So very unfortunate and sad that this once beautiful city / area has gone down this path, and with no end in sight.

This (unfortunately) below is the new norm in Asheville now, hence it’s next to last rating on the list IMO.

“... victim was waiting at a bus stop and was approached by the suspect, who asked the victim for money. The victim refused, and the suspect pulled out a fixed-blade knife and lunged at the victim. The victim sprayed the suspect with pepper spray, which provided the time for bystanders to assist him.”

Looks similar to the guy who (tried to) assault our 13 year old daughter and friend one evening as we walked along Biltmore Ave. downtown.

Was heading to get ice cream cones for the family and they were 25” in front of us walking and talking. Guess he didn’t realize I was close behind and watching.

He tried to grab my daughters private area as they passed by then lunged at me as I approached so I proceeded to lay him out in the middle of the sidewalk while his two buddies laid there passed out in their own urine. Multiple tourists witnessed the whole thing.

A blogger / activist recently beaten by AVL protesters, now has a traumatic brain injury.

Here we go again. This poster lived here, didn't like it, moved, and comes back to denigrate Asheville often on this forum. Asheville is consistently ranked as one of the top places to live in America:
