Can anyone here compare the *feel*...as in sweating, a bit more uncomfortable to breathe etc. rather than just looking at the *Absolute* and *Relative* levels between Austin, TX and Hendersonville, NC?

The past few years in Austin have been the most unbearable compared to years previous so it is time for us to retire in the mountains.

We are not fans of the aesthetics of high desert (we can appreciate the beauty, but do not desire to live in it. Yes, the forests as in Flagstaff are wonderful, but the drive to get out of the desert from there is too long for us LOL)

We were in the Asheville/Waynesville area a few years ago in OCTOBER and it did not feel humid there then, but it has felt humid in Austin the past few Octobers.

We do realize that summers will be very humid even in the mountains, but will it be MORE humid in the Hendersonville area than it seems in Austin? Of course, this post depends on how much time someone has spent in Austin, or lived there recently

Thank you for any help! Sigh...due to the Covid thing, we were not able to travel and stay for long periods to check this out, before we retire next year.

We are not interested in going to the West Coast mountains, so are hoping Western NC has a place for us

I know Black Mountain and Highlands would be less humid than Hendersonville, but so much smaller as well. I love what I have seen of downtown Hendersonville, although Black Mountain downtown IS charming...just small.

Plus, it would be great to be closer to Greenville, SC downtown

This post ended up much longer than I intended as it seems I rambled! Guess we are getting very anxious!

Thank you for reading all of this!

Lynn

Thank you! That is very good news
I understand that if Hendersonville was more humid...then we would look to a higher elevation, even Black Mountain is cooler and it does have a neat/quaint downtown!

The downtown Black Mountain is just considerably smaller even though it seems wonderful

Thank you again, we will be spending most of the summer there next year searching for acreage to build on, and if the town is less humid than Austin then it will be even less humid up the mountain a bit LOL

Thanks again

Lynn

We lived in Houston for 2 years and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast for close to 60 years. Moved to Hendersonville (in the mountains on the southwest side) about a year ago. Absolutely love it here. We are at a higher elevation, so the temperatures are usually 2-5 degrees cooler than downtown Hendersonville. For us the weather here is near perfect, although winters can be cold with ice and a little snow. What you need to consider is dew point and not humidity. The humidity level here is only about 5% less than the places where we lived on the Gulf Coast, but the dew point is considerably less, as it is a function of temperature as well as humidity. I can tell you summers will be much, much more comfortable than those in Austin. Fall and spring are great as well. Winters are likely to be colder. Really like downtown Hendersonville; it has good shopping, restaurants, and is very walkable.
