It will be a whack for Ingles at the Weaverville I-26 exit when the SWalmart opens in a few years. I'm not a WMT fan as such, but I would imagine it will
change alot of grocery store habits around that area.
You would think, but in my area, the Wal-Mart Supercenter is around a 1/2 mile from an Ingles and both seem to be doing just fine. I use both, but prefer Ingles for most of my grocery shopping. Better selection and quality, in my opinion.

The greenlife at Greenlife is the bacteria growth on the employees. We stopped by to pick up a few veggies and while making a selection, an employee starting restocking some veggies. Wow the BO emanating from this guy was rancid and overpowering. I put down what I had selected and got the hell out of there.

I have no problem with bark eaters and tree huggers, but dang it, bathe once in a while.

We just moved to Black Mountain and discovered an Amazing Savings store.
Holy cow!
Maybe not your cup of tea in the atmosphere department but if your looking for organic foods at the best prices in the universe give them a try. Kinda like "Fresh Market meets Goodwill".
Truly Remarkable and nice to know you can take a huge shopping dollar bite out of the pockets of mr. Ingle.( who is a board member of Harris Teeter from what I hear and that would explain why they are not here.) Really, isn't that the best way to voice your displeasure to a business? just shop somewhere else.
There are two Amazing savings, another in Asheville proper.
Good luck.

Just to be nit-picky: Earth Fare and Whole foods are not 'strictly organic'. There are plenty of items they sell that are not organic. They are natural foods stores.

Harris Teeter is in Asheville, on Hendersonville Road. Also a store in Hendersonville itself.

Default Harris Teeter's

Just happened upon this thread.

We shop at Ingles for salt and pepper, milk, squirrel food, and canned beans. We think Ingles' produce is absolutely disgraceful.

For produce (and lots of other stuff), we choose local farmers' markets. But since there aren't very many of those within practical driving distance of Hendersonville:

Okay. Teeter's. Gotta give thanks for Teeter's! We easily pass by Ingles for a mile or two to go to Teeter's!

If we're in the area, we LOVE Green Life. We LOVE EarthFare. We LOVE Fresh Market. None of them are cheap but... you know... you get what you pay for (not always, but usually)....

Meanwhile, we find our roots (pun intended) at Teeter's!

That's our two cents. Hope it helps someone.

You didn't hear it from me, but Whole Foods is also moving into the Asheville area soon - probably the North end of town.

Strangely enough,we think Ingles is much better than almost anything we have here at home(lowcountry SC),and we have a Publix,BiLo,Piggly Wiggly and Food Lion.

Fresh Market is of course nicer but is also much higher.

Farmers markets(or simply growing your own) is better than anything else.

Off topic a little,I personally think shopping seasonally AND locally for produce is a good idea,it gets you the best produce available.

When buying out of season, you end up buying imported food that has to travel great distances and to do that it is picked unripe.

We see it here with tomatoes,it is the last crop really grown commercially and is picked when it is bright green so it can be transported more easily, this does nothing for flavor but that seems to be unimportant.

I have to agree with Oz...we came from FL where we had the choice of SuperWalmart, Winn Dixie, Publix, or Save-A-Lot. I don't tend to buy produce at the grocery store, for the very reason that Oz mentioned...it comes from too far away and is picked when green! Also, having a BIL in the fresh market business, I have become incredibly spoiled with fresh corn, tomatoes, peppers, melons, etc. straight from the field. Nothing tastes good from a grocery store. We walked into Ingles for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised! Maybe it's just our Ingles, on Asheville Highway? Very pleasant employees, clean, well stocked shelves, plenty of choices...reminds me of County Market in the Midwest. *shrugs* I guess because our FL Winn-Dixie and Walmart were so bad, we are happy with our Ingles. I also did shop at Harris Teeter here in H-ville and like that store too.

Hey Parkies,
Is there a Harris Teeter down your way? The only one I know of is at Hendersonville Rd and the Parkway. Are you coming up here to enjoy the Teeter?

I like it. It is more expensive, but the service is excellent! When my wife has to take the kids grocery shopping, they are so good about helping her get to the car. And there's ALWAYS a bagger!

EDIT: found the Hendersonville Harris Teeter
