If you are looking for "official" dog parks, they would be limited. But remember, you're moving to a rural area with lots of open spaces. "East Laporte" is located in East Laporte, which is just over the 1st mountain and around the curve south on Hgwy107 from Western Carolina University campus in Cullowhee. It's about a 10-15 min ride from the Sylva city limits. There is a rec park in Cullowhee which is dog-friendly if on a leash--has a great walking trail. WCU has a walking track that is very dog friendly, too. Large open areas to play frisbee are there too, if a soccer game or baseball game isn't happening. Sylva also has Mark Watson Park that has dog-centered events, even. There are lots of areas to get out and play with your dog--as long as you respect the area and the people population!
