As a single female relocating to Wichita for work I need advice on where to rent an apt (and where not to). I'm concerned about safety and would love to be near to happening places where'd I'd meet people. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Until people begin to chime in, take a look at some of these past threads that talk of apartments. Also when deciding on a place consult a crime site to track whats happening in the area before signing. Good luck on your move.

What part of town are you working in? East, West, South, North?

Northeast but don't necessarily need to live right there. I'd like to be close to shops and restaurants but be safe at the same time

Northeast is ok as long as you don't get a place near the college (Wichita State University). The college itself is pretty good but it can't helped being stuck in the ghetto area. Stay away from Plainview. I would recommend west Wichita or Bel Aire which is directly above Wichita. I live there and like it far better than where I used to live in Wichita.

Wichita has a lot of great prices. If you are looking for an apartment, they can be found pretty much anywhere. There are some pretty cool lofts down town, and some are really reasonably priced. I would generally try to avoid the Southern end, within a few miles of Pawnee and Broadway. Also, it can get a little rough near 21st & Amidon, but you should be able to get a good feeling by just driving through an area. I agree with TedH71, there is a lot of rough stuff near the college too.

Good luck on your move!
