Hey all!

I need some Kansan advice! I recently got a job Modcut. I need to know a safe place to live , that is near this hospital. I have yet to make a trip to Wichita. I want to have some insider advice on what is a safe area vs. sketch area. Any information on WichitamodcutKansas/Safe/Unsafe/Apartments/etc. would be great! As of right now, price range doesn't matter; I want to know names of places I can live. I saw these apartment complexes:

Governeour Manor
Marina Point Apartments
Parklane Apartments
Parklane Gardens
Pinecrest Village
Wildwood Apartments
250 Douglas Place

Anyone know if they are in a safe area? Up to date? Please send any information you can!

Thank you!

My wife works atModcut. We currently live in the Fawn Grove suburb (Greenwich and Kellogg area), which is quite safe (a new housing district). I am assuming by your requests you are looking at apartment renting. Rather than go through each of your list, I think you should strongly consider moving a little further away and get into much nicer areas. The one thing Wichita has going for it is its ease of commute. You can get to the hospital in 10-15 minutes from almost anywhere.

My suggestions:

- Rent a house, only slightly more expensive and much more value.
- Northpark apartments - Excellent management, good value and size.
- Greens (Derby) - If you dont mind a 15-20 minute drive, I highly recommend Derby. This is where I lived prior to buying a house. It is on a golf course, if that matters. Derby is super clean and has almost everything Wichita has without the hassle.

As far as your listing, stay away from Parklane and Govenour, both are terrible apartment complexes with less than savory tenants.

Again - consider renting a house, there is one in my neighborhood for 1100-1200 and you get 2k square feet and a brand newish house. It only takes my wife 15-20 minutes to get to work every day.

Also, let me know what group in thecut you will be working. My wife always likes meeting new coworkers and she can shed some light on the current culture of that section.

Bottom line is that there are very few areas of Wichita that are actually sketchy, so from a safety standpoint you'd be good in most places. When I was house shopping, after I decided how far I wanted to drive each morning, I settled on the NE part of town, drew a line down Oliver to Douglas, and pretty much anything in that NE quadrant was fair game. It's a nice area, but there are some streets here and there and definitely some apartment complexes that aren't as nice overall. I only know a few complexes, but here are ones I have friends living at that I've heard good things about:

LaCrosse Apartments
The Remington Apartments
East Hampton Estates
Chisolm Lake Apartments
Windemere at Tallgrass
Eaton Place (loft style)
The WaterWalk Apartments (more upscale modern loft style)

I don't know much about pricing but they're all in nice areas, with the last two being more downtown location depending on the environment you're looking for. There are a lot of nice areas on the West side as well, you just have to go a little farther out. Derby, Andover, etc. are all quite nice and very safe too, just a few more minutes on the commute. Wichita is super easy to get around in so you'll have a lot of good options I imagine. Good luck with your search!

First of all - I would definitely scratch any area in Wichita south of Kellogg. The farther NE and NW you go from downtown, the safer the area, generally speaking.

I'd also avoid anything north-central - I'd look east of Woodlawn and north of Kellogg. Most suburbs are pretty safe - Derby, Andover have a lot to offer.

Hmm, I think my neighborhood (Fawn Grove) is quite nice and it is south of Kellogg. I think that is quite an assumption.

That's not to say there aren't nice neighborhoods in south Wichita, it would just be so hit and miss for someone who isn't familiar with the area. (I used to live down there myself)

You are better off East of Rock Road...There are lots of affordable rental apartments & all stores near Webb and Harry. One bedroom apartments are $475+ and houses start around $800.

Derby is nice but no hospital nearby. Can rent cheaper house without a lot of safety worries. Wichita has no public transportation to any suburbs. Buses only run until 6:30 pm weekdays, shorter hours on Saturday and no Sunday service.
