Yes, I knew there was a lot of talk and wishful hoping from various residents for locating one in this area. The MidCity development would be an excellent location. They already have a Top Golf, a Dave & Busters in under construction, at least one hotel, and REI, some sort of rock climbing place, a amphitheater, and dozens of other things ... so it'll be an attractive place once finished. There's also another large development called Town Madison that could be a place for them to consider.

I've never been to one of their stores, but I know it's a popular wannabe place. If it's really wanted in an area, presumably they'll build one.

What's a "wannabe place"? It's just a grocery store. lol

It's a place that you hear everybody talking about and wanting one, just like the main topic of this thread. Personally, I couldn't care less if they build a store here or not.

That’s only part of the reason. Open stores every year that don’t sell alcohol. Also, quite a few of them have considerably higher sales than the KC location that sells booze. Location and demographics are a bigger reason.

For what it's worth, the Memphis area just got its first Trader Joe's last year, and it is not located within the city limits. It is in Germantown, a suburb on the eastern side.

So, technically Memphis does not have one INSIDE the city limits.

Wichita's nickname "Cowtown" is well-deserved.

I came to that conclusion ~ 1970 . . . as I knew the ladies running Central Ticket Agency/Century II, they twice reserved 8th row seats for me @ 2 Jimi Hendrix concerts which failed to sell enough tickets to bring him to Wichita.

Yes, "technically" you are correct, however when discussing what a city has and doesn't have, i.e. amenities and attractions, the immediate surroundings are always considered part of said "city". For example the Atlanta Braves built a beautiful new stadium a few years ago, but moved it into Cumberland in Cobb County, no longer in the city limits, so would you say that Atlanta no longer has a major league baseball team? Of course not, that would be silly. So while the city proper of Memphis (which is a dump, by the way) technically does not have a TJ's, the upscale suburb of Germantown has one, so yes, Memphis has a Trader Joes.

TJ's isn't "specialty retail", it's just a cool super market.

We have one here nearby but in an inconvenient location and, for years I never set foot in it - no reason to. Finally, I decided to go in, look around, and see what all the fuss was about.

I came out having no idea and saw no reason to ever go back. The short answer to your question is yes. "Nothing to see here" was never more applicable.

The one near me is packed all the time, and the prices are definitely great for a specialty market store. I bought 14 items last month for under $40, a bargain compared to how much I would have paid for the same items at a large-scale grocery store.
