Here in Minnesota(1 hr from Fargo) although it is cold it doesn't seem as if winter is approaching. This is my 1st winter here and have no clue about it. I have lived in Alaska(south) for many years and whille it was cold there it only reached 20 above never below. But by this time it was cold and frosty. I have been told here it is colder than West N.D. so am preparing myself on what to picture by next month.
Will it be very snowy in November or a come nd go snow?
How about December, am sure by end will be full blown snow but how about by middle?
I am trying to prepare but it is so expensive when you think of everything you need, then to top it off having to stay in car brings more stuff you need. I would like to know so can get what I need now until Novemebr then of course get more as go along. Thanks for any sdvice
Normally, Williston does not get a lot of snow...but it does have a period of time where it dips down into the -20 to -30 below with wind chills even worse. But those temps are not for an extended long period of time. But below zero is not uncommon for much of the winter, but generally in the single to teens for lows. North Dakota has had a couple bad winters with lots of snow (records set) Some say it will repeat itself again this year and some say it won't. Hopefully someone with experience in the weather industry can fill in the rest.
It's 24f right now 7:15 am, but it don't feel too bad as there is hardly any wind, and it is forecasted for highs in the lower 50's for the next 5 days.
You can check historical averages, records, etc....at most weather sites. NOAA, Accuweather, Farmer's Almanic say that this winter will be colder tha normal. I checked into that, and it was looking like things will be around 4-5 degrees below average most days.
Thanks everyone. I know it is coming anyday and just trying to keep up since we will be heading there. Haven't been in snow for 2 years now so back to weather preparation.
very rare.....those pix looked like they were shot around the great lakes snow belts.... our big thing is wind....making even a 1-2 inch snow very hazardous in open country with low vsby.
Oh no, the snow and the wind, aggghhh!!! Where I lived in Alaska was the "warmer" area but with that darn wind and no trees(literally no trees), scary and unpredictable....
My daughter's teacher is from N.D. and she said there is not too much trees so the wind makes it worse than here in Minnesota, which I guess is generally colder and snowier(have never been here for winter). True?
