I understand that Williston is going through another oil boom, which means lots of money, and few houses.
I was wondering what ya'll thought about a Southern gentlemen renting a room, or boarding, with an elderly couple or an elderly widow living in the countryside around Williston. I certainly would want to help out the locals there who may be going through a hard time.
For the record, I am not an oil and gas industry worker. Service worker mostly, restaurants and bars. What do you all think?
I know that where the roughnecks are, there will be bars.
Honestly lostatsea78? You will not get to may invites from little old widow ladies or elderly couples living in or around Williston. The people in Williston are good people, but they like their space and privacy, and like MOST people in the US, they would NOT be up to opening their homes to a stranger to come and live with them. I don't mean this in a negative way, but times are different...people do not trust strangers...you would be better off just finding your own place to live. There is a boarding house for single men in Williston you can check out...I think it is called the Roughrider house...but you do have to follow the rules of this boarding house.
Also lostatsea78, this boom is different than the booms of the past. It is not the crazey drugged up boozing oil workers from the 70-80's. The oil companies require drug and alchahol testing, and if you do not pass the tests, no job. Most people living in Williston are not hard up or having problems living in Williston. The widowed or elderly people living in Williston have lived here for years, and really don't need the money or boarders to help them make it financially. And, most of theses elderly people have children, relatives or neighbors who watch out for them. That is the type of town Williston is. But you would be welcome if you want to come and search for work...they do need workers.

Yes, most of the companies up there will train. However, they are very strict about testing for drugs/drinking. Most of the businesses up there will send you over to Williston State College Oil training classes (they pay for it). I would check with Williston's job service for more information. Regarding the coming oil boom in the region, I would assume it's becoming more difficult to find land for sale. What does everyone else think?
There is still land for sale, but you will pay a lot more for it. Also don't expect to get any mineral rights, nobody is going to sell those with the land now.
