Spring Green area near the Wisconsin River. One of my favorite areas in Wisconsin. Sandy soil & pine trees.

Default Have returned to the scene of the crime...and bought it!

It has been seven years since I posted a picture of my wife coming out of Half Moon Lake in Tomahawk with the sunset behind her, while we rented a cabin there. Last year we bought the cabin and have loved staying there again. It is a solid classic cabin in a gorgeous area with a nice golf course very close and intend to spend our extended summers there when we retire in about five years. For now, however, we can only stay a few weeks out of the year and would like to extend the rental dates, keeping the clientele in the Midwest, those that seem to understand what a Northwoods cabin is-a serene respite from the tension of workaday living. We have a website but would like to know where we should focus our efforts so the right people could share what we have. Anybody have any ideas on a media focus?

Jealous - had planned on hitting SW WI, with the "desert" being one of the stops, but other things came up. Love that place.

Think I'll check out that Spring Green Preserve soon before it becomes a frozen hell. Haven't been to Spring Green in awhile and didn't realize that preserve was even out there. Looks like an interesting place to visit.

It's great - cacti, unusual (for WI) animals (pocket gophers, wolf spiders, predatory wasps, and tons of snakes), and so on. One of my favorite places in the state. Usually there will be a person or two there, at most. I'd be careful staying on trails, especially up top, because it's a fragile ecosystem, but also because there are a good number of rattlers. A huge bullsnake (gophersnake) startled us last time, as it was "rattling" its tail a couple feet away before we ever saw it. Usually you'll see bullsnakes down below and rattlers up above, but sometimes the rattlers come down and feed in the "desert," as well.

Appreciate the tips!

We visited this place last Saturday and it was very interesting and beautiful, although not super easy to find (no obvious road signage, etc.). Didn't see much wildlife other than a lot of grasshoppers. The prickly pear cacti all had lots of ripe, delicious red fruit on them. I took some pictures of the place, but they are similar to everwinter's pics, so no need for the duplication.
