I am heading up to Northern Wisconsin for the first time since moving to Milwaukee. What is there to do up in Minocqua? Heading there with another couple for the weekend.

Agreed 1000%

The first time I visited I stayed in the locally owned motel right by the lake. The huge attraction IS the lake with the second attraction being the bar- which was substantial in size.

This time of the year, not a whole lot that hasn't already been mentioned. Summer is the best time to go up there. I would be seeing a lot of tavern time, this time of the year. Fishing, if you like fishing.

Default Minocqua. What to do?

Depending on what dates you are coming...there could be several things to do in Minocqua this time of year! Probably the best thing is to check the Chamber of Commerce website (www.minocqua.org) look under "What to do" and then "Area events". You could also look at the local newspaper online: www.lakelandtimes.com

In addition to the great outdoors...fishing, hunting, hiking, there are several craft fairs coming up. There is also some great entertainment at various establishments: Black Bear Bar, The Divano Lounge, The Campanile Center for the Arts, and more.

Once the snow hits...they have the most incredible snowmobile trail system, as well as cross country ski trails, that are hard to beat!

There are many great Supper Clubs and taverns, that will make your trip fun too! The former Bosacki's will be reopening as Matt Morgans Restaurant on November 15th....Minocqua is thrilled to see someone take it over, as this old landmark has been vacant for a year.

Minocqua is a great place to get away from it all!

That is great the Bosaki/Matt Morgans is re-opening.This has been a staple of Minoqua forever. There is also a casino a few miles away.

There is a brewery on the main strip that has great food. If you drive a bit further to Boulder Junction, there are some art galleries, too, if you are into it. Soaking up nature is a given.

A brisk early morning hike on the Madeline ski trail (trails of 2 to 5+ miles) is always a great way to start the day. Almost always have the place to yourself as well. At least I seem to when I go, parking lot empty most of the time. Love that trail.

As Jill said, check out the Minocqua Brewing Company for some good chow and suds. Right between the park and the post office.

We stopped in Minocqua on our way to Michigan for some skiing a few years back. Pretty quiet in the winter (best known for lake activities in the summer). But we ate at the Minocqua Brewing Company, and I'd definitely recommend it if you like microbrews. Good food, nice atmosphere, and great beer.

In the summer, there's a restaurant with chipmunks living in a center courtyard. Went there as a child - can't remember the name, but would be a fantastic place to eat with kids.
