My son sent me this link and I couldn't resist sharing it with folks here who'll appreciate it. I'm no expert at posting these things, so I hope it'll work.

Ha! That is funny. I love many of the city names in Wisconsin. They are fun to say especially after a few beers.

I was born a cheesehead and spent my first 10 years in WI. After a stint in CO, I've been in TX since 1999. Thankfully I can pronounce all the cities in the video .

There aren't many (if any) cities down here with Native American-influenced names. Down here the Spanish influence is heavy. There are also plenty of cities/towns with pronunciations that aren't as straightforward as they seem.

Take Denton, for instance. You can spot the outsider because they say Den-ton. It's Dent-n.

Here are some more for you:
Italy
Mexia
Llano
Hico
Royse City
Salado
Sachse

The tip off is when the mis-pronounce your name.

It looks like they're reading the names. They teach "look-say" reading down there, that's why they have such a hard time even getting close.

Texans would laugh when Wisconsinites try to say "Bexar." (Should be like Bayer aspirin).

Then you've got Boerne (pronounce 'bernie') or Gruene (pronounced 'green'). You also jump from spanish to english with towns like Llano which in spanish would be 'yano' but don't get caught saying that in the square. It really pronounced 'Lano'. Also, how many different ways are there to pronounce Comal? I've heard it 2 or 3 different ways from people who lived there their whole lives.

Every place has it's own ways to say things. When I first moved to WI back in 1990, I had no idea how to spell Waunakee or Milwaukee when filling out paperwork for my job.

I'd also like to point out that the video seems to focus on the same few people and they just don't seem too bright.

I noticed that, too. It's like they held a mic up and the dumbest ones rushed to it. I sincerely doubt these people could correctly pronounce half the words in a newspaper article.

Oh come on! If these people had never seen the WI names, it is no wonder they couldn't.

They kept going! I don't think I would have been so willing to continue trying to pronounce difficult names with no experience or examples of the names.

I lived in WI for 17 years and I did know most of them (I think there were two that I'd not had a reason nor heard them pronounced.).

In Missouri there is Versailles- which is pronounced vur sails, not vur-SY

BUT back to Wisconsin! (Why not, it is a great state and topic!) I really love Wisconsin city names. LoL
