when are you looking at hitting the Dells? Depending on the time of year, some of the shops and attractions in the area may be closed, but if your stay is for more then 1 night there is always plenty to do besides the water park (depending on weather of course) around there if you want a bit of variety

if you're going to stay at a 'resort' be prepared for the unadvertised 'resort fees' something I think should be changed by law.. it should be, what they advertise is what you pay (before taxes)

Anyways.. stay at a place that does not let in the public. Chula Vista's park when I went after Christmas was so busy I left and went back to the hotel and relaxed in an empty hot tub. It was madness. It will probably be busy like that anywhere during a holiday week where kids have off school though, probably the busiest week in the winter for them so meh...

In the summer... Noah's Ark is just the place to go. Too bad they weren't more aggressive and didn't, for example, purchase more property and expand more than they have. Taking out the plunge for their new ride.. say it ain't so! They should have, years ago, bought the property next door to them that used to be a mini golf course and expanded into it.. now it's something else... go carts I think.

if you are going up in June, then everything will be open. And depending on how long your stay is, there will be plenty of things to see or do to consider if you want to get out of the park for awhile. Some are very touristy, others can be quite fun for kids and adults. From a ride on the ducks, to a walk in Devil's Lake St Park; perhaps google the visitor's bureau to see what's all up in the Dells/Lake Delton area.
And as while June is in "summer" season one never knows on the weather--that's the advantage to the indoor park. Wont matter if it's cool or rainy, all your water fun can be inside.

enjoy it up there!

If you go during the week, it will be less crowded than on the weekends. Depending on how much you want to spend, there are different room levels, some have full kitchens which can help keep costs down for a several day stay. Sometimes there will be specials which can get you into a condo for just a bit miore than a room, or as suggested above, you can rent a condo from an owner (also check craigslist in Madison for offerings). The fact that you have a kitchen can make up that difference in food, if you don't mind cooking. Plus, the condos and the suites at Glacier Canyon are much nicer than the hotel rooms, you have the option of separate rooms for the kiddos, and there tends to be less... mayhem, shall we say, than at the hotel (IMO).

If you are there in the summer on a weekend day, I would suggest looking into a pool side cabana. Just as a nice private place to convene and rest. I have never rented one, only wished that we had.

As far as the actual waterparks, they're pretty good, the kids loved them. As far as comparisons, I have never stayed at the other parks, so have no advice, just that the Wilderness was OK for what we were doing.

Like Josh said, the water parks are spread out, plan to walk alot. And they aren't to impressive. When we went, our room was dirty, our sink had a broken pipe but no others rooms to move us, so they put a bucket under the sink! : ( Plus, one of the beds was broken, the box spring was broken on the side so the bed sagged badly. Not impressed at all. Never stayed there again. Always went to Chula or Kalahari after that.
