Yes i hope to see a divided highway up there for safety, when people go to the cabin they seem to want to get there really fast and perform some dangers maneuvers

However I don't feel like Eau Claire is "up nort". It seems like you have to drive east some to be up north.

thinking more on this, "up north" to those of us in or from WI basically means the Northwoods.

"up north" to those CD followers from IL basically means when the toll road stops..

Northern Michigan is the same way. There is no freeway to Traverse City and the 2 lane roads get clogged with holiday traffic.

For most of the southern part of the state "up North' means north of Wausau.

I agree.

Not familiar with Northeastern WI (Wausau and such), but looking at a map, Wausau runs pretty parallel with Chippewa Falls (connected by 29) and I don't consider the Chippewa Valley "Upnorth" whatsoever.

I would tell someone Rice Lake is about the starting point. Pretty much as soon as you head out of town going north, freeway or otherwise, it begins IMO.

Ya, north of Rice Lake you start transitioning from dairy farms to forests fairly quickly on route 53.
