I am a fan of the Scandinavian Socialist model, and used to get along with different political viewpoints... It used to be we never had people asking if some place is conservative or not...
Heck I did not have to ask if a place was liberal enough back then either...

Sick of the polarization and the hate and fear crap... Yes, I blame the Republicans for it... The massive money spent on campaigning in this state, really changed things, and not for the better...

Yeah, things "just now" got extreme and of course it's the Republicans' fault. I lived in Madison in the mid-90s and I'm here to tell you you're FOS. The place was dripping with strident politics and inflammatory rhetoric even back then, and I'm sure for a long time before that. And it wasn't coming from Republicans, at least not in that town.

FOS... Thanks... Got a name for Illinois folks like you....

Sure mid 90's I blame Newt, and Rush..LOL (Come to think of it pretty mild rhetoric compared to today..)

Wrong, you know what's already killing the great lakes that no one cares about MMSD, The City of Chicago, and invasive species. As a great lakes fisherman, I cannot stand it when I hear "conservatives or republicans don't care about the environment". Nothing could be farther from the truth, I spend a lot of time on the great lakes and our inland waters and streams and I get furious when we really have pollution problems but when it's a liberal or liberal organization doing the polluting(MMSD) then it's crickets.

Bad River Chair: Water Pollution Would be “Genocide,” Mum on EPA Violations | Media Trackers

Media Trackers on Monday released a report detailing that while the Bad River Band has been expressing serious concern with the proposed iron mine due to water quality concerns, the waste water treatment plant on their reservation has been flagrantly violating EPA pollution discharge rules. Water pumped by the plant into the Bad River, according to EPA permits and reports, has had excessive amounts of E. coli, suspended solids, and phosphates.

Wiggins’ dedication to clean water may be up for question with the news that his government’s waste water treatment plant has had hundreds of discharge and reporting violations over the years. A New York Times study found the Bad River facility to be the top violator of the Clean Water Act. EPA data discovered by Media Trackers shows 38 E. coli discharge violations, 33 phosphate discharge violations, and dozens of suspended solids discharge and reporting violations between 2007 and 2012.

Organic waste and invasive species are not good for the lakes that true...... Changing them in an UN natural ways!! I too want that those things cleaned up.. (Ironic though that it is actually one of the invasive species that cleans up the sewage induced water issues... The Zebra muscle actually helps keep clarity up and water cold.

That said, heavy metal toxins and acids used in industrial activities such as mining don't belong in the water either!... (Liberal here that does not oppose all mining, just mining with poor planning and high risk).

Your a Conservative, and you are referencing the EPA? Clean water act? Thought conservatives all wanted to get rid of the EPA, because it stands in the way of "progress"? Thought companies or cities do not need regulation by "big" government?

I like that you care about the environment.... That is a very pro Wisconsin thing to do... To me it sounds like the world needs more "conservatives" like you... Matter of fact, that is the point I was trying to make.... It used to be most conservatives in the state were like you.... Maybe socially conservative, maybe fiscally conservative, but not out to get rid of protections for the people and the environment, they saw those things as an "insurance policy", and good use of their tax dollars.

Facing a deadline to stop dumping toxic coal ash into Lake Michigan, owners of the last coal-powered steamship on the Great Lakes are pushing for it to join Mount Vernon, Lincoln's Tomb and Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthplace as a protected national historic landmark.

Even if the Badger fails to make the list of the nation's historic and cultural treasures, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency may be unable to force the aging coal burner to eliminate the nearly 4 tons of waste it dumps in the lake every time it sails. An amendment added to a budget bill by Republican congressmen from Michigan and Wisconsin would prevent the EPA from imposing more stringent pollution limits on any ship that is "on, or nominated for inclusion on" the list of landmarks.

But the strident politics and inflammatory rhetoric were not in the form of bought media time, representing only the view of those wealthy enough to buy the media, and forced down the throat of everyone who was conscious. The difference came when the national media was sold to the highest bidder.

It certainly was "forced down the throat of everyone who was conscious" unlike any place else I've ever been or lived. You couldn't escape it unless you never left the house and never consumed the local media. The primary difference is now the other side finally has a voice in the media, and the one side that was used to having a monopoly doesn't like having a mirror held up in front of it.

The problem is now we have only extremes in politics and that isn't good for anyone either. Does anyone find it preferable to live in states controlled completely by one political party for decades? I doubt it, most of them have all kinds of problems.
