States dominated by one political party tend to lead to statism and decline over time.

That's funny. I grew up in Wisconsin in the 40s and 50s, and I cannot recall ever hearing an opinion from anybody that I would today classify as Progressive. I wasn't even aware of the fact that a more liberal alternative even existed.

Sure, there were people who said Wisconsin was better than Mississippi because we didn't have segregation, but that was about as liberal as it got and everyone was still prejudiced, just not to that extreme. Some were so liberal, they didn't use the N-word. Is that what you mean by "forced down the throats"?
