The problem is this - non-union workers are giving up more and more of what they have had, with wages stagnant and benefits falling because their employers put them up against people who are desperate and starving in third world nations. Unions pool the collective strength of the workers, and have been able to better resist the erosion of what the have earned.

The question is, why should union workers give up benefits they have had, just so CEOs can get bigger and bigger bonuses?

Don't the workers, with their labor, contribute to and create profits for the companies they work for?

Instead of blaming the unions for having benefits that everyone has had and should have, shouldn't you be asking why employers should be allowed to constantly cut benefits for workers?

You should be arguing for MORE unions, not union workers having less. But hey, do the dirty work for greedy corporations in their race to the bottom for worker pay and benefits.

Problem is, the employers aren't the ones putting them up against third world nations. The global market is doing that. Third world nations have every right to better themselves if they choose to do so. We have to compete with them whether we like it or not.

Where did this fairy-tale come from? "Global market" IS American corporations moving into China and then whining about "global competition."

Third world nations don't "better themselves" too much - they are still the nations of filthy rich ( who prefer to keep their money in Western banks) and dirt poor.
America doesn't "compete" with them any longer - it chooses the same path.
Greed and money rule, it's all down the hill from there, with no rebound that some are hoping would come with return of "conservative values."

Nice to see Democracy alive and well in Wisconsin, the majority have prevailed , although the happy Republican's may have a short honeymoon with their win as the win signifies an endorsement of a right to work state, a state where employers will pay their workers the lowest possible wage and forget about any workers rights or protections, pensions and healthcare you are now on your own for everything. enjoy..

Jambo101 seems to have no experience living in a "Right to work State". Private employees in right to work states, like Texas where I live, have the same things that union states have. They have protections installed by the govt. They have pensions, health insurance, workers comp. insurance, unemployment insur, etc etc. So I guess I have to say that you don't know what you're talking about. Public employees also have pensions and health care benefits, just like union states. And these right to work states have something that many union states don't have. Lower cost of living, lower taxes and jobs. Texas added 150,000 jobs in the last 6 months. What good are union jobs when the factory closes because the company got beat out by foreign competition. Govt. Unions in Wisc. only cared about themselves. They didn't care if teachers or other school employees got laid off, they didn't care if homeowners were forced to pay even higher property tax bills, (which are already out of sight), they didn't care if private companies moved out of state, leaving its employees out of jobs. No, all they cared about was themselves, and so they marched and fought and threw a temper tantrum like spoiled little girls that just had their dolly taken away.

I guess the people "congratulating" our state this morning are the ones who contributed to Walker's campaign. 3/4ths of Walker's campaign contributions were from out of state, while only 1/4 of Barrett's were.

on the other hand, 3/4 of those who voted for Barrett were from out of state.

you're partially right. Conservatives don't represent the interests of the little guy like many think, but they are needed to keep out of control socialism in check ... both sides would regulate our private lives way too much given unfettered power... just in different ways. I don't feel like going back to the 1950's.. I want to move forward... and the more social freedoms the better. As long as republicans continue to support their 'war on' things, and continue to support banning this, banning that, I will not support them (except Ron Paul) ... the problem is liberals have their own sets of things they'd like to see 'banned' when nothing should be banned.

I think fearing that unfettered socialism leading to losing guns, leading to oppressive communism where we are all slaughtered if we don't comply with the state, is an old fashioned belief. There's something to be said for government paid for and regulated health care in my opinion.. the problem is all the loopholes that let illegals get benefits when the border should be sealed up.... all this race/culture mixing of first and third world peoples is STILL the biggest mistake the elite are making.
