Hello everyone!! My wife & I choose La Crosse after a whirlwind job tour of the Midwest. We have been to the city twice, and we are coming back next March on a house/rental hunting trip. Does anyone have any suggestions for good areas to rent a condo or townhouse. We really like the Onalaska & La Crescent areas. Thanks for the help and can't wait to live in your beautiful state. Thanks.

Condos and Town Homes should be easy for you to rent. Since you want to rent, the prices will be close in rent costs. Most of the areas in Onalaska and LaCrescent are decent and safe. If you want slightly into the country but 5 minutes to Valley View Mall, there is a newer condo development in the Town of Medary off Kiel Coulee Rd. near Smith Valley Rd. I think the realtor who developed the place is Cindy Gerke. We know some people who live there and they love the location.

What area of LaCrosse will you work in, if working or what do you want to be close to and I may be able to give more pointers.

Thanks STONE1. We will both be working for Gundersan Lutheran Hospital. My wife will be at the main hospital, and I will be working at the Onalaska clinic. We want to rent for the first 6 months to a year before we buy. Is there anything near the Green Cooley area?

I think Greens Coulee is all single family but some areas for you to check will be Braund Street behind Shopko. 12th Ave South between Oak forest Dr. and Main Street, has condos and apartments on it. If you stay on the 4 lane, Hwy 53/157, just north of East Main Street in Onalaska get off at the exit for Sand Lake Rd. (Menards is there), there are some newer town homes and condos in that area.

Another place with easy in and out which may work for you are the condos on County Hwy B, in the city of LaCrosse. These are new condo's which if you looked south from the Gundersen Clinic where you would be working, across the LaCrosse River area, they would be just across the river. Northwoods Elementary School is just across the road from these condos if that helps you locate them. There are professional people in those condos as well as the ones on Kiel Coulee Rd which I mentioned in my first post.

The longest drive will be for your wife but Hwy 16 is kept reasonable clear in the winter months so she is not likely to have any problems.
