Hello, Wisconsin-ites!

I've recently been reminiscing about vacations we used to take when I was little (about 45-50 years ago). We used to drive to Crivitz and rent a housekeeping cottage at a resort called Ahles. I can find references to the resort on the internet but the GoogleEarth results show what appear to be private homes.

I was able to find a phone number and left them a message last summer but never heard from them and wonder if the resort really exists anymore.

Does anyone have any info, memories, etc? The resort wasn't really much more than the cabins and a general building that had a small store, a tavern and I presume the owner's home. In the mornings we would smell the wife baking bread, and would try to buy a loaf .. it's such a great memory.

Thanks..

My wife, son and I stayed at the well known Shaffer's Resort way back in 1972 or 1973
The Chicken dinners they served were outstanding. There claim to fame, I forget, was it Broasted??
We had a nice clean cottage close to the lake and a swimming pool.

Default Ahles Resort

Owner Died in 2011 I think? ( Give or take a year) left resort to friend who sold it the following year. It is now a private residence. Owners house and two original log cabins that are connected by bathrooms in the middle. Commonly called Cabin #6 and 7.
1,2,3,4 were sold off and a Nice Modern Log Home was built I am guessing 10- 12 years back.

5 was called the honeymoon cabin which came off the Big Island years ago. That was donated to the Historical Society.

The new owner can not and does not rent #6,7 as they are out of code.

We used to stay at Shaffer's Resort. They had a fire recently and I'm not sure if they rebuilt or are planning to rebuild. I don't recall Ahle's Resort, sorry. There is a Shaffer's Resort group on facebook... maybe someone in it would have more info for you. Might be worth checking out. There are probably folks who stayed at both resorts over the years.

Default I spent my summer vacation at Ahles resort

I am resurecting this thread because I was looking at some property online and it was nearby Crivitz. We would stay at Ahles for two weeks every summer from about 1968 - 1974, my parents continued to go up until 1985 or so. Chuck and Doris ran it back then. I have great memories, beautiful area!
