Who considers them dumps? I've been to all three and wouldn't describe them that way at all.

Especially Hayward. It's a tourist mecca.

I don't think people consider these cities dumps either. What I think many people think of cities like Racine and Superior as that they're very blue collar/industrialized and have a dirty feel to them. Maybe other reasons.... I've been to Hayward and I don't see the resemblance between Superior/Racine and Hayward....

I don't know, my sister used to date a Sawyer County Sheriff's Deputy, and he didn't say why, but he used to make the Hayward area sound like Breaking Bad.

If Superior is a dump, then it's a darn cold dump.

Short answer to your question: Lack of Shopping/Entertainment/Substance.

Ever been to Adams/Friendship area?

The towns you mention are true Gardens of Eden compared to that locale.

I've never been to Racine, but I Googled the town. Then I Googled Adams/Friendship, WI... I agree with the poster above me- Racine is beautiful and Adams/Friendship looks very run down, much like Detroit or Roseville, MI. I'm sure at one point Adams/Friendship was a nice area like Roseville... but times have changed.

I've never heard those cities are dumps. Hayward is in the middle of nowhere and really dead in the winter when the tourists leave, but that's about all I can think of.
