Wisconsin is mostly gas stations and bars.

There are dumpy places in both states.

The title of this thread caught my eye. Kinda' know how the OP feels. I live in west Oregon, and to read the Portland thread you would think that everyone here loves the gray gloomy skies. I hate it. However, this place has other appeals, and though our summers are short they are at least beautiful (most years). Eastern Oregon is considerably different, though.

Would you really expect the same people that don't notice the car behind them in the left lane to also notice the gray skies? Sometimes I think we should change our state motto to Wisconsin, State of Oblivion.

I can't like this comment enough.

Gray skies and oblivious drivers forever in Wisconsin.

Lived in WI for many years before moving to western OR.
In my opinion both places have similar "grayness" in winter months.

However the big difference is the mild temps in OR. That is a HUGE plus for wife and me. One of the problems in WI is that when it is clear in the winter, it usually means it is damn cold.

Here - when sun comes out in January, it can easily get into the 60's. That is awesome and sure beats a high of 3 and sunny!

Horrid fog today!! Really fun driving with the glare on the roads after work with near zero visibility. Give me 0F and clear over this any day!
I'm glad I stocked up on Vitamin D supplements last week as well.

This grayness just doesn't let up. And it's as I suspected, a lot of you don't even notice. How can you not notice day after day without a hint of sunshine unless you are a hermit? If you are like my neighbors, you are a hermit.

Not a hermit when I lived there, just wasn't a big deal. Didn't even notice. Maybe because the other places I lived weren't much different? I don't think Wisconsin is any more gray than New England, or even Northern California. At least I never noticed it.
