Summer Thunderstorms? (Sheboygan, Lake Geneva: outdoor wedding, dangerous, best)

Well, we're going to be on a plane for Chicago in a few hours for a wedding in Lake Geneva this weekend.
Looks like there will be some thunderstorms, and we had an automated phone call that our flight was cancelled earlier this evening, but now they are on time again. Whew...

So I'm wondering what to expect at this outdoor wedding.
Are they usually short? Do you get lightening with them? Years ago my mother's little brother was killed by lightening when a storm suddenly came in during a little league game.

Will it be really sticky outside and will it bring massive swarms of bugs?
I hope it doesn't ruin the day for my cousin!

Sorry to sound so clueless. California has thunder storms once in a while, but I hear the mid west is a different story! (Now fires and mud slides... I am familiar with those!)

I'd be surprised of your flight is really on time into O'Hare, there were storms last night, that tends to back everything up there.

Thunderstorms vary, it might last a few minutes, or a few hours. As far as lightning, it's dangerous, yes, but during a storm, you would be in more danger from falling trees or blowing debris. If the wedding is outdoors, hopefully there is a contingency at the location for weather, there are supposed to be scattered storms all weekend. The forecast is for mid 80s, but it is humid, it's been raining now every day for the last week. It is buggy as all get out, skeeters are out and about in hordes.

It shouldn't be that buggy in Lake Geneva, but it looks like low 80s & rain, not ideal for a wedding. No thunderstorms, though. I've never met a person in my life who was struck by lightning.

I've only ever met one person who was struck by lightening and it happened in Canada, not in WI.

Lake Geneva is a very nice area for a wedding. My wife is from the area and that's where we were married - inside. Outside weddings can be a generally nice thing, but the WI weather changes so often that it can make or break the event even at the last minute. The mosquitoes and flies always make outside events more challenging in the summer. If there is a breeze they shouldn't be too bad. It will likely be very humid, so be prepared to sweat a lot, especially if you are wearing dress-up clothes.

My husband has been, twice (same event though but two separate strikes according to those who saw it), and a former coworker was struck golfing. Both must have been cold bolts, because both were fine. Well, jury is still out on the dear husband, but he survived

Weird, I know a lot of people and have never heard of anyone ever getting hit.

I always said people were stupid to do outdoor weddings in Wisconsin any time outside Fall, but I was best man some years back right off Lake Michigan in Sheboygan during October and it was in the 90s that day - brutal!

I'd be worried about rain more than anything else. It's been a wet couple of weeks...not so much lighting, thunder, wind and hail action.
