Hi everyone,

I was hoping for some assistance. I just got hired at Kohler Co. and am relocating for this position. I am a native NY'er though I have spent some time in the Midwest (specifically the Twin Cities) for a number of years, so I am no stranger to quaint and quiet, non-bustling smaller cities and towns.

I am going to plan a trip to search out neighborhoods and find an apartment before I officially ship my stuff out and have very little insight into the areas of Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls (I was given a quick tour of Sheboygan area, near Lake Michigan by my manager after my interview... which was cool). I was told by someone else I know employed at Kohler that the area of Sheboygan (near the Sheboygan River, Kwanis Park area) is a nice area, very pedestrian and somewhat metropolitan (with sidewalks, small shops, Starbucks, etc) and that I would find that area a bit more suited to my tastes than living in Sheboygan Falls, which he thought was a bit more country, non-pedestrian friendly and very spaced apart.

Anyone from the area have any suggestions? I am a single male, 30s with a car, but still love to walk around when I can (in other words; when I need a gallon of milk, I prefer to walk to a local grocery store versus driving).

Thanks in advance for any input folks!

I worked in Sheboygan for a few years. I think it's a nice town, personally. I think you may prefer it to Sheboygan Falls, which is also a nice place, but has fewer amenities. If you travel down 8th St. in Sheboygan, you'll find Tratoria Stefano and Il Ritrovo, which are really nice places to dine. The John Michael Kohler Art Center is wonderful, there's golfing (in three seasons, anyway!) Down on the riverfront there are restaurants and shops and Blue Harbor Resort.
The beach I always liked to visit was in Deland Park. The water is really cold, but it's pretty nice in the middle of summer. There's also the Kohler-Andrae State Park, which is lovely.

There are a number of bars, taverns, and pubs (Wisconsin loves its beer!)

You might be interested in Road America in Elkhart Lake, which is nearby.

I used to have artwork in a small gallery in Sheboygan Falls and that's all I really know about that town! I had no other reason to go there, although I'm sure it's a lovely place.

Best of luck to you in your move. I hope all goes well and you'll enjoy your new home in Wisconsin!

Thank you for sharing your experiences in Sheboygan! I ended up visiting both areas: Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls and though I was more attracted to the area of Sheboygan, I didn't luck out finding something suitable (upscale and that had a vacancy). So I did find a really nice, updated and modern apartment in SF instead. I will pursue a 6 month lease and then later on take my time exploring and finding a more suitable apartment in Sheboygan (unless I happen to enjoy living in SF). The apartment in SF is only 4 miles from Kohler Co, so it's a nice compromise for now. I can always drive to Sheboygan and hang out near Lake Michigan and the beaches in the summer time when I need to.

Thanks again!!!

That's great! I agree... Sheboygan is just a hop from Sheboygan Falls. Both are really nice places. And you're so close to the Kohler Co. so that's convenient. Good Luck! Hope all goes well for you.
