My boyfriend and I are looking to move from Wausau (yuck) to Appleton late this Summer or early Fall. We have a small handful of friends in the area already so that's neat - plus guaranteed jobs as mine moves with me (hooray!) and he will be transferring. The one thing we're struggling with is finding someplace pet-friendly. We have a small dog (Pem. Welsh Corgi 25lbs potty trained and very well-behaved) and three cats. We will NOT be moving without them so I encourage you to save your breath if you're going to suggest that we might want to start looking into re-homing them. Can anyone point us in the direction of some townhomes, duplexes, apartments, specific landlords or management companies etc. that open their arms towards well-behaved pets? We can provide good references from previous landlords. We're looking for somewhere in the $800 range (less is better! ), two bedrooms since I do need a quiet office for my job. Flexible on the rest of the home requirements, just a comfortable place to lead our daily lives. We're in our mid-twenties, we aren't party people, we keep our home clean, no children (now or ever), we aren't up causing a ruckus late at night, etc. We don't mind moving to a "subdivision" like Neenah, Little Chute, or such so long as it's not too far out of the way to get to the main part of town (15-20 mins or so). Thanks much!

My husband and I moved back to WI from SC last May. We have one older cat and did run into a few snags here and there. Some people just absolutely refuse to rent to people with pets. However, there are plenty of people, thankfully, who don't mind pets. You might simply need to pay a pet deposit up front.

Have you checked Trulia, Zillow, and craigslist for rental properties already? It's best if you can chat with the property manager or owner and let them know that you're responsible and conscientious.

I'll keep my eyes open for you. I'm sure that there are plenty to choose from in the area. You could check with Day Property Management, Best Real Estate LLC, Blue Frog, or Pfefferle. I'm sure they'd all have multiple listings you could check out.

Good luck!

Hello there - thanks so much for the response!

I've been looking primarily on Craigslist with not a whole lot of success. I've seen a few things here and there but it seems stretched thin at the moment. One of my friends suggested that perhaps I drive around Appleton and check "For Rent" signs since a lot of properties may not be listed online. That might be a good idea - it's just tough since obviously I can't see right off hand then if they're willing to accept pets. We're definitely willing to pay a pet deposit since our pets are well-behaved. I understand people's reservations but we just aren't willing to move without them. They're family, y'know?

I haven't checked Trulia or Zillow yet, I'll give those a go. I'll also look into the other suggestions you provided me. I appreciate it, and I'll check back here every couple days to see if you or anyone else has more information. Fortunately we have some time left, always better to get on it early so we aren't rushing last moment.

Thanks again!

I was just checking out a site called Rentals.com and there are a number of places that might be of interest to you. I saw some houses for under $800 a month.

Also, on Zillow, there is a place at 818 W. Summer St. #1, Appleton- 3 beds, 1 bath, 1000 sq ft. $750 a month.

In Menasha, there are two listings that would seem to fit what you're looking for:

961 7th St. Apt. C, Menasha- $550 a month.
987 7th St. Apt. D, Menasha- $675 a month. (Townhouse.)

1020 E Kimberly Ave, Kimberly- $645 a month.

Pet Friendly- 2221 Ballard Rd. Appleton

If you contact a property management company, I think they can save you a lot of legwork and provide you with all the listings they have. I do see "for rent" signs quite often in Appleton and the surrounding areas. It's a good way to learn which neighborhoods you like, too.

I'm sure you'll find something suitable. There are lots of pet people in this area. I would never have left my cat behind, either. I completely understand!

Will keep my eyes open for you. Good luck!

Wow thanks a ton! That's a lot of help. I've never tried out a property management company before - that sounds like it might be the way to go. Definitely gives me hope that we'll be able to find what we're looking for.

I Googled "Pet Friendly Rentals in Appleton WI" and got these results:

Lake Park Crossing Apartments
Stone Meadows Apartments
Forestview Court Apartments
Willow Park Apartments
Rangeview Villas Apartments
French Garden Estates Apartments
Evergreen Estates Apartments
Lynndale Apartments
Parkside Luxury Apartments
Oakwood Manor Apartments

(There are at least 7 pages... check them out!) Some of them look really nice.

Thanks again! I've seen some of these but there are a few on the list that I haven't come across in my search yet. One of the things I hate are sometimes when I look up "pet friendly" it seems that people advertise that way just to get people's attention when in fact they aren't pet friendly, or they'll advertise as pet friendly but only accept cats. Grrrrrr. No worries though, I will find a place! Lol.

Turn the hose on those places that claim to be pet friendly but aren't!
That seems like false advertising and it's a craptastic thing to do.

My fiance and I were fortunate enough to find a rental home that allowed our animals when we were moving to WI from another state. If you have the time, just keep looking. I don't really have other places than what people have already suggested to look into. We found our place on Craigslist. I was so happy when everything about moving with pets to another place worked out. I wish you luck! And if it's not too personal to ask, what kind of job is it that you are lucky enough to move with? As I myself am looking for a better career step.

Hello Friesncatsup! Sorry for the delay in responding. Not too personal to ask - no worries. Unfortunately I doubt that my job is a "better career step" but due to some health issues I'm not able to work outside my home so I'm extremely limited with options. I work for Sykes @Home so I operate out of my own home office doing call center type of work. They have many, many different clients so hours and pay rates are greatly varied. My first position was part-time (20hrs per week) and I worked for a popular banking firm within the lost and stolen card department, and my current position is full-time (40hrs per week) and I work with a very big advertising company. Unfortunately they just lost one large client so about 1600 reps are back in the "pool" waiting on new positions, not the best time to apply but if it sparks your interest no harm in tossing in your application. They'll keep it on file until your skills and interests match an open position.

We do have time fortunately, and that may be what it'll end up taking. A friend of mine is taking me on a drive around Appleton in two weeks to take a peek at some places. I know lots of them aren't listed online so I'm sure I'll have to do a lot of calling around as well and that might just be how I find the perfect place. Fingers crossed!
