I took some paper to a printing place in Viroqua once when I drove for Badger Federal. It was such a beautiful drive that it left quite an impression on me. I almost bought a farmette in 2007 in Viroqua. And now that we are seriously considering moving back to WI, my thoughts often drift to the driftless region. My worry is that it's too isolated and not enough going jobs. It's a few years until we are farmers. I really want to become an organic farmer, maybe join the Organic Valley co-op. But as some one who comes from farmers but has never broken ground with anything larger than a hoe, it's a little daunting.

Funny you mention Cicely AK. , I think that is what we are chasing as well. Ely MN was about as close as we have found and we lived there for almost a decade, but as you expressed , jobs were the key missing ingredient. Great place to raise a family in every way except that you just can't provide without a job. We are hoping Viroqua fits the bill.
