I consider myself liberal and I fully admit that Avery very well may have murdered Teresa Halbach. However, I still think that neither Avery nor Dassey received a fair trial due to the mishandling of evidence; the participation of officers who should have stayed away from the crime scene; and myriad other deviations from what would be proper procedure. Dassey's attorney failed him and in fact, caused him damage.

If this can happen to these two people, it can happen to anyone. While I don't believe either of them should simply be "set free," I do believe that they did not receive the fair trial to which all US citizens are entitled. Putting someone away for life is a pretty huge thing.

I don't think Avery is a good person and I wouldn't want to be acquainted with him, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve the same rights as everyone else. I watched the trial coverage as it was happening. The documentary filled in some of the blanks that the media didn't share, but I think a lot of people are basing their opinions on just the documentary, and of course, that's not a great idea. It's actually rather scary how easily people are swayed.

not a 'Sconnie', but we've increased our border patrols along the western bank of the St Croix River.

I watched a little of that and thought about that too. Sometimes you get the feeling it's just down here in the rural south that we have these types of "clans", if you will, here and there. People who didn't seem to travel far enough from home when choosing their mates or something.
