We have a kitchen sink on an island on our main floor of our roughly 1 year old home. For close to 4 months we have had days off and on with such a strong smell of sewer gas it makes you almost nauseous. The smell is emanating from underneath the cabinet but flows up out of the sink and not only will fill the main living area but is starting to be so powerful you can smell it downstairs. We have a young daughter and my wife is deeply concerned for her (and our) health, plus it's just gross.

We have a push button garbage disposal on top of the granite countertop. Our dishwasher is located to the left. We run the dishwasher daily and sink a lot. Our studor vent has already been replaced. We didn't see anything wrong with the original. There is no other vent on top of the cabinet or underneath the sink.

Based on the photos attached, can anyone take a guess as to what is happening and how we can stop the sewer gas smell happening roughly 2-4 times a week all day long?

Yes and they replaced the Studor vent. That wasn't the answer. They didn't see that it could be anything but that.

my plumbing ignorance is gonna show here, but i believe indoor plumbing has venting that runs out thru the roof. Any chance there is an issue there, blockage perhaps?

And if i'm off base, well it is Friday.....

One thing I noticed is that your dishwasher drain is installed incorrectly. You need a high loop on it to prevent the water in the trap from back flowing into it. A high loop simply means that you need to take the hose and attach it to the top of the cupboard.

This is a wild theory, but could the dishwasher drain actually be back-flowing and sucking the water out of the trap? With no water in it, you'll get sewer gas. It's easy enough to test, provided whoever installed it left you enough hose.

Dirt_farmer, this is for all plumbers out there. TWG1572 and Damba, thanks so much, I'll pass it by the plumber to see what they say.

Ours doesn't quite look like the picture you show...the drain line flows from the bottom of the cabinet up to a pipe. See 2 of the pictures side-by-side and you can see that the line goes from the bottom of the cabinet by the dishwasher to this PVC pipe sticking up on the other side and not up towards the sink where I'm assuming there may be a vent perhaps? There is no vent on the top of our kitchen countertop and we were told that there doesn't need to be one by the plumber.
