Hello, we're trying to relocate to Stevens Point area from Chicago suburbs. We want to move away from this horrible overcrowded city/state with high crime, high taxes, corruption and want to live in the country outside of Stevens Point.....We've been applying for jobs with no luck, we've both had a few interviews over the phone/Skype, but no job offers.
We tell the potential employers we need 2-3 weeks, to give notice and to move once we receive a job offer, and I'm wondering if the fact that we're not local and that we need the 2-3 weeks is scaring them off.
Is it really that hard to get a job? I see new jobs posted daily, my husband is in finance/banking, I'm looking at customer service/phone/insurance positions with my 10 years of experience in customer service. We just need one good job offer so we can move with something, but it seems so difficult.
It's a bit frustrating when you hear people moving to different states with job offers and here we're not having any luck.
Any tips or ideas or experience with relocation similar to this?

Have you tried Skyward? I know they expanded. We moved from Chicago 30 yrs ago. We moved first and got jobs after. We are in Kronenwetter. I worked in Point for a coup!e of years. Good luck.

You can eliminate the problem with a box at a UPS store that also includes a street address. Use it only for the job search address, cancel after you make the move. You can also buy a disposable phone from the local area and use that number for all job related calls. You can even just turn the phone off and forward all the calls to your regular phone and when a call comes from the disposable you automatically know from the number that it is job search related.

My personal opinion is that the job market in WI is not as good as many like to think. It is very competitive and some of us have simply given up and left. Certain fields are needing help, but they are the same skilled trades that are in short supply across the country. General skills and managerial positions are not as readily available.

You may want to broaden your search to Wausau area as well and improve the odds.
